We relocated them to an ASPCA recovery center where they are receiving medical and behavioral care and enrichment. Some of them also appeared to be suffering from medical issues requiring immediate veterinary treatment. These dogs-including puppies and pregnant dogs-lived in unsanitary conditions, and many had dirty coats. This story and many like it reflects many positive themes, including resilience, compassion, medical care, foster care, commitment, and-most of all-lifesaving second chances. Catalina reports the two are doing very well and that she renamed her companion Indigo. Willow recovered from her many injuries, including her tail, which healed over time. “She was cute and had good energy, and her backstory moved me,” Catalina told us. She met Willow in a video chat, was moved by her story, and adopted her immediately. In early January, a Manhattan nurse named Catalina discovered Willow while browsing the ASPCA website for an adoptable cat. ![]() In August, we placed her with a specialized foster caregiver to continue her healing. Veterinarians at our Animal Recovery Center treated Willow for weeks. He surrendered Willow and received a court-ordered animal ban of five years. Willow’s prior owner was arrested and pled guilty to an animal-related violation. She also tested positive for Toxoplasmosis, an infectious organism that can enter the muscles and liver. In addition to a painful tail pull injury that caused dysfunction to her tail and bladder, Willow had injuries to her face, mouth, and left eye, and her upper lip and chin were swollen and bruised. X-rays revealed a broken jawbone and injuries from previous trauma, including two broken ribs and a broken right thigh. Police seized the cat, named Willow, and transported her to the ASPCA Animal Hospital. ![]() ![]() Last July, the NYPD received a call from a Bronx resident who witnessed a neighbor swinging his cat by the tail. ![]()
